GCSE, AS and A level Consultation for Summer 2021

CCEA recently launched a public consultation on the proposed changes to CCEA GCSE, AS and A level qualifications due to be assessed in Summer 2021. The proposals are in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the loss of direct teaching contact time for GCSE and GCE students.

As part of the consultation, CCEA wishes to consider what changes we may need to make to the assessment requirements across our portfolio of qualifications for the Summer 2021 series. The proposals for 2020/21 consider the current health scenario, the potential public health restrictions and compliance with the New School Day guidance.

The consultation invited interested groups and individuals to comment on a range of potential adaptations to the exam and assessment requirements. Views will be considered in the context of a changing health scenario and the need to balance reducing the burden of assessment on students, as well as maintaining their wellbeing, while upholding the integrity of the qualifications in Summer 2021. It’s also important to ensure that any changes are fair to all students. In addition, the consultation looked to a post-Summer 2021 period when examinations may return to normal.

We fully recognise the need to provide clarity to schools and colleges as soon as possible. In light of this, the consultation closed on Monday 7 September 2020 at 5pm, having been online for 2 weeks and outcomes will be communicated as soon as they have been finalised.
