Review of Marking

5.1 I don’t think my marks or grades are right, what can I do?

If you have a query about your results, you should contact your centre (school/college) about using the Post Results service. You can request a review of your script(s) by using this service. All applications for this must come from your centre. CCEA cannot accept requests from candidates or parents/carers/guardians.

If you are an external candidate, you should contact the centre where you sat your exams to submit a Post Results request.

5.2 What service are available to me?

The following services are available through your centre:

Clerical Re-check

You can apply for a clerical re-check of your script. The cost is available in the CCEA Post Results Services Summary Document. It is only a clerical review of your examination script, and it may result in a change to your mark, up or down.

Review of Marking

You can apply for a review of marking. The cost is available in the CCEA Post Results Services Summary Document. This is a review of your script by a senior marker and it may result in a change to your mark, up or down.

Access to Script

You can apply for the following access to scripts services:

  1. A copy to help you decide if you would like to request a review of marking
  2. A copy accompanying a review of marking (this will be issued after the review has taken place)
  3. A copy for Teaching and Learning purposes (these are not released until after the closing date for requesting a review of marking)

Please review the CCEA Post Results Services Summary Document for the applicable deadlines and charges. A quality check will take place on your scripts with every access request and may result in your mark going up or down.

5.3 Is it worthwhile applying for a review of marking on a script?

Your centre has information about the marks you achieved in each component or unit you sat with CCEA and the grade boundaries for each of these. Where your mark lies in relation to these grade boundaries may affect your decision as to whether or not you should apply for a review of marking. You should contact your centre for advice. Your teachers and your Head of Centre are the best people to advise you. All requests for a review of marking must be submitted by your centre.

5.4 Can I see my completed examination script?

Yes, CCEA offers an access to scripts service (as outlined above in 5.2). Contact your centre to make the application for you.

Please note the following:

  • Once you request access, your script will be subject to additional quality assurance checks which may result in a change to your mark. Please bear this in mind before requesting access.

Be aware of the different types of access to script available: before a review of marking; accompanying a review of marking; for teaching and learning. There are different application dates and receipt dates for each of these. Please discuss with your centre to decide which service best suits you.

5.5 How much does each service cost?

Each service has a charge. View full information on all charges in the CCEA Post Results Services Summary Document.

5.6 How long will it take to get a clerical check?

The outcome of a clerical check will be reported to your centre within 10 calendar days of receiving your request.

5.7 How long will it take to get a Review of Marking?

The outcome of the review of marking will be reported to your centre within 20 calendar days of receiving your request.

All outcomes of review of marking/clerical re-check requests are returned to centres and not directly to candidates.

5.8 What happens if my script is checked and it results in a mark change?

If you request a review of results or access to scripts which changes a mark, the new mark will be reported to your centre. If this change of mark in turn leads to a change of grade, you will be issued with a new statement of results reflecting this change.

Candidates should be advised before using any Post Results service that changes to marks and grades can be higher or lower than the original provisional mark and grade reported.

5.9 Am I entitled to a refund of the review of results if my marks have changed?

A fee will not be charged for a Review of marking or Clerical re-check in the following circumstances:

  • If the Review results in a change to an overall subject grade (up or down) when a candidate has cashed-in. No charge will apply to any units requested for the subject.
  • If the Review results in a change to the notional unit grade (up or down). No charge will apply to the individual unit only.
