Pre-School Overview
Pre-school education offers children one year of non-compulsory education. Children learn at their own pace through a breadth of learning experiences and challenging play activities in a stimulating environment.
The play-based pre-school curriculum is non-statutory and is set out in six Areas of Learning. This early learning and development builds on the learning from home and/or other settings.
Through play and other relevant learning experiences, children can develop a positive image of themselves as resilient learners who are able to cope with uncertainty and learn through trial and error.
A seamless transition from pre-school to Foundation Stage is important. Pre-school staff should share information on children’s learning experiences with Foundation Stage teachers.
