The GCHQ National Language Competition 2024
We are pleased to confirm the date of the 2024 GCHQ National Language Competition, which will run from Monday 18th November - Friday 22nd November.
The National Language Competition (NLC) is a virtual competition where teams from schools around the UK compete against each other to solve language-based puzzles and score points. The overall winners are then invited to GCHQ’s headquarters in Cheltenham to receive their trophy!
With the NLC, GCHQ aims to inspire language learning by encouraging students to discover their aptitude for learning languages. Some sample challenges are provided below- why not encourage your pupils to have a go?

We would encourage all language teachers to explore what is available on the site. Searches can be refined to a particular language and to a particular UK region.

Free online resources for Primary and Secondary teachers
Culturethèque
Culturethèque is the FREE online library of the Institut français du Royaume-Uni for all readers, teachers and students. This service is accessible throughout the UK for free, you simply need to register online. Francophone Music, essays, fiction and biographies, teen novels, picture books, graphic novels, comics... no matter what you and your pupils like, you can find it on Culturethèque!
French Teacher Award
The French Teacher Award is a national prize which recognises remarkable success of French language teachers, highlights, honours and thanks their work and commitment to encourage the teaching of French in primary and secondary schools in the United Kingdom.
Applications will be open early September and can be submitted online until 4th November 2022. The winner will receive a personal prize of £300 as well as a night for two in South Kensington. More information coming soon and will be available here.
