Today (November 22, 2021) marks the first day of the November examination series for some 27,149 students in Northern Ireland. CCEA would like to thank teachers and parents for their hard work and commitment in preparing students for these exams. We would also like to acknowledge the role examiners will play in the coming weeks.

CCEA’s approach to awarding grades for exams taken in the 2021/2022 academic year has now been approved by the Department of Education.

In awarding grades for these exams, CCEA will be mindful of the impact of COVID-19 and the resulting challenges faced by students. Therefore, outcomes in 2022 will be higher than those of pre-pandemic years - an approach that has also been adopted by other regulators in the UK.

This approach recognises the disruption experienced by students taking exams in 2021/2022 over their course of study, ensures that student interests will be protected and comparability across qualifications maintained.
