Appointment of a Chairperson and Members to the Board of the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA)

The Department of Education (DE) has launched a public appointments competition to appoint a Chairperson and at least five Members to the Board of the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment.

CCEA is a DE sponsored non-departmental public body, and is responsible for keeping under review all aspects of the curriculum, examinations and assessment for schools including: developing, conducting and moderating qualifications and assessments, and developing resources to support the implementation of the curriculum.. The Chairperson role involves ensuring that the CCEA’s policies and actions support the NI Executive’s Programme for Government targets and the strategic policies of the Minister of Education, and that the CCEA’s affairs are conducted with regularity and probity and deliver value for money. Council members contribute to the development of CCEA’s strategy; ensuring that it is consistent with the Minister’s priorities and DE aims and objectives; to challenge and work for consensus in the decision making processes of the Council; and contribute to the work associated with the discharge of CCEA’s statutory functions.

The appointments are for four years. The Chairperson receives an annual remuneration of £13,000 (under review), plus relevant travel expenses.

CCEA member appointments are not remunerated, however members may claim travel and other expenses necessarily incurred while carrying out their CCEA duties. All appointments are non-pensionable.
