Public Health Guidance to Support Public Examinations
The Department of Education (DE) released guidance to schools, colleges and exam centres on 19 November 2020, detailing the arrangements that need to be implemented when delivering public examinations within the current public health context.
The purpose of this guidance developed as part of the DE Restart programme is to support exam centres in significantly reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission during examinations. These measures should be used alongside the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ) Instructions for Conducting Examinations.
This guidance supports exams centres in ensuring that all legal obligations for health and safety and public health set out under the Coronavirus Act 2020 are maintained. All relevant legislation must continue to take precedence when planning and conducting examinations.
We are fully committed to supporting schools and colleges during this challenging period to ensure that our students can sit their examinations in a safe and secure environment. If a school, college or exam centre has a particular query these can be directed to the relevant organisation(s).
