Woven in Ulster: Ulster-Scots and the Story of Linen
Unit 4 - The Mill Workers
This Unit explores some of the jobs carried out by people who worked in the mills in Ulster from the mid eighteenth century until the demise of the linen industry in the early twentieth century. It examines the health and safety risks for mill workers and the role of the half-timers. It also explores the work of the Ulster-Scots pioneer and missionary, Amy Carmichael with the Belfast ‘shawlies’.
