With the end of the war in Europe, attention turned to Ireland where Sinn Féin were rapidly rising the political ranks and republican aspirations of independence were gathering pace. At the same time throughout the UK and Ireland, the suffragette campaign was at its height and was about to gain its first step towards its goal of winning the right to vote for all women in parliamentary elections.
