Think Pack - Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities
Training Activities for Teachers
On this page
These activities are for you to use ideally with a whole-school staff or a group of colleagues. It is a vital part of the process to discuss and share ideas about the activities and the cards. This will help you to understand how to use the cards.
Before you use Thinking Cards, you need to know how they support your learners to acquire and develop Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities.
These activities are designed to make you think. They place you in unfamiliar situations, replicating what learners face on a regular basis, and show you how Thinking Cards can scaffold thinking and provide guidance if learners become stuck.
Each activity will take about 45 minutes, depending on how much discussion follows. We have highlighted suggestions for discussion, where appropriate.
Activity 1: Writing with Objects
Working in a small group, use a set of objects as a stimulus for writing a narrative. You may use a Thinking Frame to help you to plan in your group. Then choose some Thinking Cards to help you think your way through to the end of the activity.
Activity 2: Design a Museum
Collect images of artefacts that you want to display in your museum. Working in a small group, draw up a plan to show how you will display these artefacts.
Activity 3: Scenarios
Working individually or in pairs, choose a scenario. Decide how you would work through an issue or solve a problem. Use a Thinking Frame to help you to plan. Then choose different Thinking Cards to help you think your way through the scenario and come up with a solution.
