Ready to Vote? Key Stage 3
There are five elements to the Key Stage 3 resource. It is advised (but not essential) that the elements are completed in the order listed above.
Resource 1: Ready to Vote? Presentation
The Ready to Vote? presentation has been designed to encourage pupils to think about how and where decisions are made, the election process, registering to vote and how they can be active citizens. The teachers notes background information is intended to support pupils as you guide them through the presentation and associated activities.
Resource 2: Who Does What?
This interactive activity and teachers notes encourage pupils to identify Northern Ireland’s levels of government, understand the roles of different types of elected representatives and appreciate the importance of being on the Electoral Register.
Resource 3: Vote or No Vote?
Using this interactive activity, pupils will explore who can and can’t vote and find out about registering and voting.
Resource 4: Active Citizen Activity
This activity provides opportunities for pupils to work in small groups and find out about a range of young people from all over the world who are active citizens.
Resource 5: Extension Activities
This creative activity will help the pupils understand the role of a parliament.
Pupils discuss what MPs, MLAs and Local Councillors have in common.
Tips on how to set up a meeting between young people and their elected representative.
This activity is designed to consolidate learning after having completed Resource 1: Ready to Vote? Presentation and some (or all) of the interactive activities.
