Interim End of Key Stage Assessment Arrangements 2024/25
On this page you’ll find the key resources provided by CCEA that support the Interim Statutory Key Stage Assessment Arrangements for 2024/25 set out in the Department of Education’s letter to principals dated 16 October 2024.
The Levels of Progression have not changed since they were first introduced from 2012. For the academic year 2024/25, schools should upload the levels for pupils in Year 4, Year 7 and Year 10 through C2k by 30 May 2025 in the assessment of:
- Communication in the area of Reading at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3; and
- Using Mathematics in the area of Number at Key Stages 1 and 2, and Number and Algebra at Key Stage 3 only.
Guidance on the Assessment Arrangements
This short guide sets out the assessment arrangements for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.
It includes information about teacher assessment, optional CCEA Assessment Tasks, making judgements about levels achieved and submitting outcomes.
There are also sections on pupils with special educational needs and exemptions from statutory arrangements.
Support for Communication (Reading)
To decide what level your pupils have achieved in Communication (Reading), you will need the following:
Primary
- The Levels of Progression for Communication at Key Stages 1 and 2
- Expansion of the Levels of Progression – Primary Reading (non-statutory support)
Key Stage 3
Support for Using Mathematics (Number/Number and Algebra)
To decide what level your pupils have achieved in Using Mathematics (Number/Number and Algebra), you will need the following:
Primary (focusing on Number)
- The Levels of Progression for Using Mathematics at Key Stages 1 and 2
- Expansion of the Levels of Progression – Primary Using Mathematics (non-statutory support)
Key Stage 3 (focusing on Number and Algebra)
CCEA Assessment Tasks (Optional)
Our Task and Exemplification Library includes CCEA Assessment Tasks at different levels for each Key Stage and Cross-Curricular Skill.
You may wish to use one or more of these tasks to help you arrive at a level for your pupils. Their use is optional, and judgements about the level that a pupil has attained should be based on their performance across a range of work.
