Financial Capability is an important part of the Northern Ireland Curriculum for Primary schools which aims, through learning opportunities to develop learners as individuals, and contributors to society, the economy and environment to empower young people to achieve their potential and to make informed and responsible decisions throughout their lives.

For many, Financial Capability is most closely associated with the Mathematics and Numeracy in the curriculum in primary but actually features in every Area of Learning. For example, The Arts includes understanding the roles of producers and customers, Language and Literacy explores the power of advertising, Personal Development and Mutual Understanding examines how to keep money safe and to access the goods and services that we need, Physical Education looks at employment and working hard to achieve goals, and The World Around Us investigates product journeys and distribution systems.
