Exploring The Life And Times of Cú Chulainn
Unit 3: Exploring Literacy
On this page
This section shows how the animated Cú Chulainn series can be used to promote knowledge and understanding of literacy and language at Key Stage 2. Teachers will use this section to explain what a myth and legend is and to illustrate the meaning and significance of myths in Irish society by comparison with myths in other cultures such as the Greeks, the Romans and the Vikings. This unit will introduce pupils to the tradition of Irish storytelling and the figure of the Seanchai (represented by the grandfather in the animated series). The culmination of this Unit of Study will be for pupils to invent their own myth or legend.
