Developing and Embedding Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities
TS&PC in Practice
The following two Case Studies highlight how two schools incorporated Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities into their lesson plans.
This Case Study from Bangor Academy examines how new approaches were used to deliver and assess the Thinking Skill and Personal Capability skill of Being Creative. Pupils were encouraged to explore and experiment with different compositions and layouts while working towards a personal response for their own still life painting. Pre-existing support material on the CCEA website was adapted to form an assessment rubric for the lesson.
This Case Study looks at how Priory Integrated College developed a series of lessons on the Thinking Skill and Personal Capability skill of Working with Others to give pupils opportunities to:
- know what a positive contribution to a group looks like and how to make one;
- develop solutions to problems by working together;
- use talk as a means of communication to achieve end goals; and
- adopt a role, be able to sustain it and experience how important roles are in a group.
