RCSLT Resource Buddy Chat

Buddy Chat

Created by the  Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, this external video-based resource consists of two lesson plans for teachers.

Buddy Chat allows children to understand how a speech, language and communication need (SLCN) can present, explore strategies to be more inclusive with their peers/family members, and reduce isolation of peers with an SLCN by utilising the Buddy Chat High 5 strategies.

The aim is to support children to be kind and caring communicators in school to children who have an SLCN. The lessons are designed to be completed as an inclusive whole-class exercise from Year 4. They are underpinned by five practical strategies that children can implement in school and the wider community to understand how communication works and how they can support interaction with their peers/family members.
