Art and Design Resources for Key Stage 3
Example Art Projects
3D Construction based on Native American Totem Poles
This is a collaborative project using cardboard construction in relief. It focuses on line, shape, form, pattern and colour. Pupils explore different materials and their possibilities and limitations to discover how to use them inventively. They learn to select and invent appropriate joining techniques to solve technical problems as they arise. They learn to consider the form, structure and surface of 3D artworks from a 360° perspective.
Drawing and Painting after Kandinsky
This project reviews the visual elements allowing pupils to discuss and consider how artists use them in their work. It encourages pupils to explore line, shape and colour in more depth. Pupils experiment with a range of materials such as pencils, pens, wax or oil crayons, brushes, inks, watercolour paints on cartridge or watercolour paper, or other surfaces.
Pupils express their response to a musical stimulus through visual means in a non-pressurised environment. Pupils explore a range of media and develop confidence and skills without value judgements. They also develop an understanding of the artist, Wassily Kandinsky, and Abstract Expressionism.
