Curriculum Connections at Key Stages 1 & 2
On this page
The resources below show connections across the curriculum. These have been developed to help schools address aspects of education that are significant for learners in Northern Ireland. Many of the resources support government priorities that are important for individual, social and economic wellbeing.
Thematic Learning
We have developed resources on a range of themes to help teachers plan structured teaching and learning opportunities for children. These resources can motivate children by showing them the relevance of, and connections in, what they’re learning.
Teachers have considerable flexibility to deliver the curriculum through themes and topics that are appropriate to children’s abilities and interests. These resources support teachers in combining learning across the different Areas of Learning to make relevant connections for children.
The resources below are organised by year group and/or Area of Learning.
The Chief Inspector's Report from the Education and Training Inspectorate identifies learning that is well connected as an example of best practice.
Ulster-Scots
These resources help primary school teachers to introduce their pupils to aspects of Ulster-Scots language and culture. Topics include everyday Ulster-Scots words, the Plantation of Ulster and the role of Ulster-Scots in the linen industry of Ulster.
Teachers can use the resources across different Areas of Learning, such as The Arts, Language and Literacy, The World Around Us, and Personal Development and Mutual Understanding.
STEM Works
We have developed this site to provide teachers with a range of resources that they can use to promote STEM in the classroom.
See STEM strategy on the Department of Education website for more information.
