CCEA Certificates in Performance Skills are available at Level 1 and Level 2. Learners can extend their skills, knowledge and understanding of the entertainment industry, develop their own strengths and interests, and progress to giving a final performance.
We have worked closely with relevant bodies supporting this qualification, and a student workbook is available for learners to record their outcomes. This can help both the tutor and the learner to identify and meet the specification requirements.
This qualification builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills developed through the Area of Learning The Arts.
There is no written external examination or test; the qualification is entirely evidence based. All units are internally assessed, and we carry out external moderation.
Learners produce a portfolio of work and give a performance. Learners’ final rehearsal and performance may be externally moderated as a live performance or pre-recorded using video or DVD.
There are three mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Working in the Performing Arts Industry
- Unit 2: Develop Technique for Performance
- Unit 3: Rehearse and Perform.
Skills developed through Performance Skills
This specification builds upon the broad objectives of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and enables learners to develop as individuals and contributors to the economy, society and environment. Learners acquire and develop fundamental practical skills in the art of performance, focusing on their performance ability by developing their critical awareness. Developing and demonstrating their skills in performing in front of an audience can open doors to further related study and/or employment.
The qualification also incorporates activities that allow learners to research opportunities in the entertainment industry and to develop their knowledge and skills, for example by exploring relevant topics such as health and safety.
