Other Skills
The Other Skills at Key Stage 4 are Problem-Solving, Self-Management and Working with Others. These skills incorporate Being Creative and Managing Information. However, they are grouped differently to reflect the approach to skills across the UK at Key Stage 4.
These skills continue the development of the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities from Key Stage 3.

Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities Progression Maps
Each Key Stage 3 subject has a Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities progression map. To provide continuity and ensure progression in the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, we created the Key Stage 4 Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities progression maps. You can find these in Appendix 3 of our Guidance on Teaching, Learning and Assessment at Key Stage 4.
Teachers can use the progression maps to plan learning and chart pupil progression across the following strands of the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities:
- Problem Solving;
- Self-Management; and
- Working with Others.
Teachers should adapt the Key Stage 4 progression maps to suit their subject. Teachers should read the accompanying Guidance on Teaching, Learning and Assessment at Key Stage 4 when using these maps.
