Purpose

Examiners are responsible for marking candidates' scripts in accordance with the agreed mark scheme.

Requirements

Typically an examiner will be required to:

• receive an agreed allocation of scripts and mark a sample of them (Advanced Allocation) in preparation for the Standardisation Meeting;
• attend a Standardisation Meeting for each examination series, at which the mark scheme is discussed; and
• mark all allocated scripts within a specified time period. During the marking period, examiners are mentored and supervised by the Principal Examiner or Team Leader.

In Addition
Online training will be available for newly appointed examiners prior to the Standardising Meeting.

• be a fully qualified teacher with one year’s teaching experience in a relevant specification area;
• be preferably currently teaching one of the CCEA specifications, or have a broad knowledge of the specification area;

Moderators review the centre assessment of candidates' work in accordance with the agreed assessment criteria and CCEA's procedures.

Requirements

Typically an moderator will be required to:

• attend a specification specific Briefing Meeting for each series;
• moderate a specified number of centre samples. This is usually done by:
  • sampling for GCE/GCSE;
  • sampling for both internally assessed units, or in the case of Art and Design, by centre visits.
• complete documentation to provide feedback based on the accuracy and consistency of the centre's assessment decisions in meeting the agreed standards; and
• complete a written report to be sent to the centre.

In Addition
Newly appointed moderators for GCE/GCSE will be required to attend a training event, usually held in advance of the Briefing Meeting.

• experience teaching Cross-Curricular ICT in a relevant sector for at least three years in the last five years;
• involvement in providing support to teachers and implementing Cross-Curricular IT/ICT for at least three years in the last five years;
• experience of using one or more of the following:
  • animation;
  • film/moving images;
  • music technology;
  • online communication;
  • working with sound; and/or
  • interactive design (programming).
• knowledge of the NI Curriculum and new assessment arrangements for Cross-Curricular Skills;
• experience of making teacher-based assessment judgements;
• capability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable
Ideally, you will have:

• involvement in assessment of pupils in the former ICT Accreditation Scheme (2009−2013);
• experience of agreement trialling processes and/or experience of internal standardisation;
• experience of curriculum and/or other assessment development beyond the scope of an individual school;
• completed relevant professional development or training in Using ICT;
• experience of working in an online environment; and
• experience of end of Key Stage assessment.
