CCEA welcome applicants with experience in the positions listed.
Examiner positions
Examiner (for GCSE & GCE specifications)
Purpose
Examiners are responsible for marking candidates' scripts in accordance with the agreed mark scheme.
Requirements
Typically an examiner will be required to:
- receive an agreed allocation of scripts and mark a sample of them (Advanced Allocation) in preparation for the Standardisation Meeting;
- attend a Standardisation Meeting for each examination series, at which the mark scheme is discussed; and
- mark all allocated scripts within a specified time period. During the marking period, examiners are mentored and supervised by the Principal Examiner or Team Leader.
In Addition
Online training will be available for newly appointed examiners prior to the Standardising Meeting.
Criteria
Essential
To apply, you must:
- be a fully qualified teacher with one year’s teaching experience in a relevant specification area;
- be preferably currently teaching one of the CCEA specifications, or have a broad knowledge of the specification area;
- have the ability to work well under pressure;
- have the ability to meet deadlines;
- be eligible to work in the UK; and
- enhanced criteria may apply.
Examiner (for Vocational qualifications)
Purpose
Examiners are responsible for marking candidates' scripts to the agreed mark scheme.
Requirements
Typically a examiner must:
- receive an agreed number of scripts and mark a sample of them for the Standardisation Meeting;
- attend a Standardisation Meeting for each examination series, at which the mark scheme is discussed;
- mark all scripts within a specified time period; and
- receive mentoring and supervision from a supervising examiner.
Criteria
Essential
To apply, you must:
- be a fully qualified teacher with one year’s teaching experience in a relevant specification area;
- have a broad understanding of assessment methodology and internal standardisation;
- have the ability to work well under pressure;
- have the ability to meet deadlines;
- be competent in the use of ICT;
- be eligible to work in the UK; and
- meet enhanced criteria which may apply.
Desirable
Ideally, you will:
- currently teach one of the CCEA specifications, or have a broad knowledge of the vocational area; and
- have examining experience.
We also welcome applications from teachers and lecturers who are fluent in Irish, or have experience in Special Educational Needs, who are qualified in this specification area.
Moderator positions
Moderator (for GCSE & GCE specifications)
Purpose
Moderators review the centre assessment of candidates' work in accordance with the agreed assessment criteria and CCEA's procedures.
Requirements
Typically an moderator will be required to:
- attend a specification specific Briefing Meeting for each series;
- moderate a specified number of centre samples. This is usually done by:
- sampling for GCE/GCSE;
- sampling for both internally assessed units, or in the case of Art and Design, by centre visits.
- complete documentation to provide feedback based on the accuracy and consistency of the centre's assessment decisions in meeting the agreed standards; and
- complete a written report to be sent to the centre.
In Addition
Newly appointed moderators for GCE/GCSE will be required to attend a training event, usually held in advance of the Briefing Meeting.
Criteria
Essential
To apply, you must:
- be a fully qualified teacher with one year’s teaching experience in a relevant specification area;
- be preferably currently teaching one of the CCEA specifications, or have a broad knowledge of the specification area;
- have the ability to work well under pressure;

Moderator (for Vocational qualifications)

Moderators review the centre or school assessment of the learners or pupils, working to the agreed assessment criteria and our procedures.

- moderate a specified number of centre or school samples;
- complete paperwork providing feedback on how accurately and consistently the centre's or school's assessment decisions meet the agreed standards; and
- complete a written report to be sent to the centre or school.

Moderator (for Statutory Assessment skill areas)
Purpose
Moderators review the centre or school assessment of learners or pupils, working to the agreed assessment criteria and our procedures.
Requirements
Typically a moderator must:
- attend a specification specific Briefing Meeting for each series;
- moderate a specified number of centre or school samples;
- complete paperwork providing feedback on how accurately and consistently the centre's or school's assessment decisions meet the agreed standards; and
- complete a written report to be sent to the centre or school.

OR
have three years' relevant experience of working within the appropriate Key Stage and the Cross-Curricular Skill which we deem appropriate (e.g. Education Support Services work); - have knowledge of the NI Curriculum and new assessment arrangements;
- have experience of making teacher-based assessment judgements;
- ensure capability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team;
- be eligible to work in the UK; and
- meet enhanced criteria which may apply.
Desirable
Ideally, you will have:
- experience of agreement trialling processes and/or experience of internal standardisation;
- experience of end of Key Stage assessment; and
- experience of working or participating in an online environment.
We also welcome applications from teachers and lecturers who are fluent in Irish, or have experience in Special Educational Needs, who are qualified in this specification area.
Irish-Medium Moderator (for Statutory Assessment skill areas)
Purpose

- have knowledge of the NI Curriculum and new assessment arrangements;
- have experience of making teacher-based assessment judgements;
- ensure capability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team;
- be eligible to work in the UK; and
- meet enhanced criteria which may apply.

Purpose
Moderators review the centre or school assessment of learners or pupils, working to the agreed assessment criteria and our procedures.
Requirements (Primary Only)
Typically a moderator must:
- attend a specification specific Briefing Meeting for each series;
- moderate a specified number of centre or school samples;
- complete paperwork providing feedback on how accurate and consistent the centre's or school's assessment decisions are in meeting the agreed standards; and
- complete a written report to be sent to the centre or school.

We require newly-appointed moderators to attend a training event, usually held before the Briefing Meeting.
Criteria (Primary Only)
Essential
To apply, you must have:
- experience teaching Cross-Curricular ICT in a relevant sector for at least three years in the last five years;
- involvement in providing support to teachers and implementing Cross-Curricular IT/ICT for at least three years in the last five years;
- experience of using one or more of the following:
- animation;
- film/moving images;
- music technology;
- online communication;
- working with sound; and/or
- interactive design (programming).
- knowledge of the NI Curriculum and new assessment arrangements for Cross-Curricular Skills;
- experience of making teacher-based assessment judgements;
- capability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
Ideally, you will have:
- involvement in assessment of pupils in the former ICT Accreditation Scheme (2009−2013);
- experience of agreement trialling processes and/or experience of internal standardisation;
- experience of curriculum and/or other assessment development beyond the scope of an individual school;
- completed relevant professional development or training in Using ICT;
- experience of working in an online environment; and
- experience of end of Key Stage assessment.
We also welcome applications from teachers and lecturers who are fluent in Irish, or have experience in Special Educational Needs, who are qualified in this specification area.
Moderator for Using ICT (for Statutory Assessment skill areas) (Post-Primary Only)
Purpose
Moderators review the centre or school assessment of learners or pupils, working to the agreed assessment criteria and our procedures.
Requirements (Post-Primary Only)
Typically a moderator must:
- attend a specification specific Briefing Meeting for each series;
- moderate a specified number of centre or school samples;
- complete paperwork providing feedback on how accurately and consistently the centre's or school's assessment decisions meet the agreed standards; and
- complete a written report to be sent to the centre or school.
In Addition
We require newly-appointed moderators to attend a training event, usually held before the Briefing Meeting.
Criteria (Post-Primary Only)
Essential
To apply, you must have:
- experience implementing Cross-Curricular ICT in a relevant sector for at least three years in the last five years;
- involvement in providing support to teachers and implementing Cross-Curricular ICT for at least three years in the last five years;
- Involvement in assessment of pupils in the former KS3 ICT Accreditation Scheme (2009–2013);
- experience of using one or more of the following emerging technologies:
- animation;
- CAD;
- film making;
- game making;
- music technology; and/or
- using VLE (e.g. Blackboard or Moodle).
- experience of curriculum and/or other assessment development beyond the scope of an individual school;
- knowledge of the NI Curriculum and new assessment arrangements for Cross-Curricular Skills;
- experience of making teacher-based assessment judgements; and
- capability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
Ideally, you will have:
- experience of agreement trialling processes and/or experience of internal standardisation;
- completed relevant professional development or training in Using ICT;
- experience of working collaboratively in an online environment; and
- experience of end of Key Stage assessment.
We also welcome applications from teachers who are specification specialist teachers from a non-ICT background, fluent in Irish or have experience in Special Educational Needs.
Irish-Medium Moderator for Using ICT (for Statutory Assessment skill areas) (Primary only)
Purpose
Moderators review the centre or school assessment of learners or pupils, working to the agreed assessment criteria and our procedures.
Requirements
Typically a moderator must:
- attend a specification specific Briefing Meeting for each series;
- moderate a specified number of centre or school samples;
- complete paperwork providing feedback on how accurate and consistent the centre's or school's assessment decisions are in meeting the agreed standards; and
- complete a written report to be sent to the centre or school.
In Addition
We require newly-appointed moderators to attend a training event, usually held before the Briefing Meeting.
Criteria
Essential
To apply, you must have:
- experience of teaching Cross-Curricular Using ICT in a primary school for at least three out of the last five years;
- experience of teaching in the Irish-medium Sector or have a third level degree in Irish;
- experience in one or more of the following emerging technologies – Animation, Moving Images, Music Technology, Online Collaboration and Working with Sound.
Desirable
Ideally, you will have:
- relevant professional development in Using ICT;
- experience in the development of materials and resources for ICT;
- experience of working in an online environment;
- experience of working in a team.
