History of Art not only complements the practice of art and design but, as a subject, very much stands on its own merits.
With content that includes some of humanity’s most captivating and profound creations, it is a subject that engages and stirs on many levels, from simple art appreciation through to the most challenging intellectual enquiries. Interdisciplinary, its study both calls upon and feeds into most areas of knowledge, providing insights into how artworks helped shape us, as human beings, and our collective history.
The observational, analytical, interpretive and critical skills acquired and developed through its study have wide application, particularly in a world increasingly dominated by visual imagery.
