Understanding 1917 And Beyond, developed by the Nerve Centre in collaboration with CCEA, is a continuation of work around the theme of Commemorating Centenaries and the resource Understanding 1916

This new online resource is a hub of downloadable content and information related to the events of 1917-22 including their causes, consequences and on-going legacy today. It contains a wide range of learning materials, downloadable lesson packs and links to explore.

The resource provides opportunities to address such topics as:

  • The Battle of Messines;
  • Votes for Women;
  • Irish War of Independence;
  • Government of Ireland Act;
  • The Anglo Irish Treaty; and
  • The Irish Civil War.

This resource aims to provide teachers and learners with the tools to ensure that 1917 and beyond is seized as an opportunity to learn and reflect on a tumultuous era in our past in order to inform our future, and to develop learning in a positive, inclusive and constructive environment.
