The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) has paired up with Resonate Testing Ltd, to launch ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll’, a new and innovative competition aimed at 14-16-year-old students.
'Shake, Rattle & Roll' is an exciting competition to engage students from Northern Ireland schools and colleges, providing a practical challenge to drive interest and understanding in STEM subjects and engineering. The challenge will inform students on the importance of testing in product development for structural integrity issues such as vibration, acoustics and strength.
Students will design and build a cantilever structure representative of an Aircraft wing box section. The structure will need to span a certain length while being capable of supporting a mass of known quantity.
The structure is then set up on the Resonate Testing vibration system, instrumented with accelerometers by Resonate Testing engineers and exposed to a vibration environment. The structure will SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL!
Whoever designs the cantilever structure which lasts the longest WINS!
