GCSE Grading - the picture for Northern Ireland

In England, the decision was taken to move to a numerical (9 to 1) grade scale to replace the current alphabetical (A* to G) grades. This decision was taken by the Department for Education (DfE) and will apply to GCSEs first awarded in Summer 2017.  The Welsh Government has decided to remain with the alphabetical grade scale. The Minister for Education, John O’Dowd, has consulted on this issue and we are awaiting his decision regarding the future of grading of GCSE’s in Northern Ireland.

Whatever the decision, CCEA’s Awarding Organisation is ready to take forward any relevant actions.
