Confirmation of Assessment Arrangements for Using ICT

The Minister for Education, John O’Dowd, MLA, has confirmed that assessment of Using ICT using the Levels of Progression will become fully statutory for all schools from September 2016.

The Minister has strongly endorsed the policy rationale behind the Using ICT levels and has instructed CCEA to ensure that schools are supported in their preparation for full introduction in 2016. The Minister has also emphasised the importance of providing schools with sufficient time to plan the implementation of arrangements to assess Using ICT.

CCEA will be communicating with all schools in due course to confirm the full arrangements for 2016-2017.

Arrangements for this academic year (2015-2016)

Schools will continue to assess pupils’ competency in the cross-curricular skill of Using ICT, and report their progress to parents as part of the Annual Report, using qualitative comments.

A full programme of support events, visits and workshops as well as online resources will be in place to assist schools in their preparation for the forthcoming statutory assessment from September 2016.

CCEA will be issuing full details of these training arrangements for primary and post-primary schools in the near future. CCEA will also shortly be communicating with schools to confirm the provision for voluntary moderation in the 2015/2016 academic year.
