Skills and Capabilities at Key Stage 4

Schools must ensure that all pupils have opportunities to acquire and develop the
Cross-Curricular Skills of:

  • Communication;
  • Using Mathematics (UM); and
  • Using Information and Communications Technology (Using ICT);

and the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities (referred to in statutory orders as other skills) of:

  • Problem Solving;
  • Self Management; and
  • Working With Others.

Schools must also assess pupils in these skills and capabilities and report their progress to parents. (refer to The Education (Pupil Reporting) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009)
