Key Stage 4 Religious Education

Religious Education

The curriculum for Religious Education is defined by the Department of Education and the four main Christian Churches in Northern Ireland in the Core Syllabus. It also has a role to play in the context of the curriculum by giving young people opportunities to develop their personal understanding and enhance their spiritual and ethical awareness.

Teachers are encouraged to supplement the core syllabus with further provision that complements the ethos of the school and the society in which we live.

Post-primary schools are required to provide pupils with a broad and balanced education. They must therefore provide at least one course related to each area of learning.
