Sinn Féin

The 1918 General Election provided Sinn Féin with its first electoral victory since its foundation in 1905. Prior to 1916 (and the Easter Rising), the Irish Parliamentary Party had dominated Irish politics whilst Sinn Féin had favoured a more peaceful approach to nationalism; 1917 brought a new leader in Éamon de Valera and a more radical approach to nationalism.

The resources examine the topic utilizing a number of different media, which serve to engage pupils with the material, challenging them to think more creatively and encourage discussion.

The resources could inspire tasks that would support presenting, researching, working with images and working with sound.

Using desktop publishing software, create a Sinn Féin election poster for the 1918 general election.

Working in pairs, research Sinn Féin election posters from 1918. Be mindful of the style of the posters and justify your design choices. Use a suitable image and explain to the reader why they should be voting Sinn Féin.
