In recent years there has been a great deal of material published about education in general and about assessment of educational outcomes in particular. Navigating this field can be time-consuming. In this section a set of publications and papers from reputable sources has been selected. The materials chosen here all share some dimension of concern with assessment and ways to support learners' progression. A theme that emerges from the research and evidence-based studies is that there are good reasons to make use of approaches that involve aspects of formative assessment, assessment for learning, and learning to learn. It is particularly formative assessment approaches that are shown to be effective means to achieve improvements in educational outcomes.
More links to organisations and bodies that publish research papers in education are available from the Useful Links section of Assess and Progress.
